We’re glad you’re here!

First, some notes on navigation. This site is set up with five categories: body, brain, other, how to use accommodations, and talking about accessibility. The sixth item on the website menu is Accessible Communication 101, which is a general guide. Each page has on page navigation rather than drop down menus you need to hover over to select a page.

Accessibility is defined as the quality of being easily obtained, used, understood, appreciated, or reached. In practical terms, it means creating an experience within STARFLEET that everyone can easily enjoy. We are a diverse fan organization, and everyone should be able to access all facets of it.

True accessibility matches up with the ideals portrayed in Star Trek and the concept of Infinite Diversity, Infinite Combinations (IDIC). In Star Trek, characters like Geordi LaForge or Hemmer have differences that are not a major plot point. Instead, they were normalized, their environments made accessible, and their contributions valued as a matter of course.

The Office of Accessibility is currently working to build accessibility into fleet level communications, in addition to building out this website to serve as a form of self-service center. The office is also available to address specific situations, provide education, and help members find solutions that allow them to fully participate in this organization.

Anything shared with this office is protected under STARFLEET International’s Data Privacy Policy.

Let’s boldly go,

Fleet Captain Coleen Parker
